Abano has a 55 percent shareholding in Aotea Pathology, a joint venture with Sonic Healthcare. The business holds a five year $102 million fixed-price contract for community pathology in the wider Wellington region which expires in November 2011. Community laboratories provide specialist pathology services for patients referred by health professionals. The total community pathology laboratory market is worth $190 million p.a.
